PROGRAMME

The Road Forward
In this presentation we will review and discuss the results of the Phoenix Astronomical Society’s recent survey. In March members received a questionnaire as to what should be the future direction, functions and activities of the Society. Members’ views and ideas on our present activities, from the newsletter to meetings and conventions such as Stardate, were sought. The committee decided that these matters should be discussed at a general meeting, particularly as it became obvious that many members did not understand or were perhaps misinformed on various topics. It became clear, for example, that many members do not understand what a ‘trust’ is and how it would function. Some members, particularly newer ones, didn’t understand how they could get access to and the use of Society equipment. All of these issues and others raised by the survey will be addressed at this meeting.

Following the discussions, along with a cup of tea or coffee, we have a very interesting film for you…

Planet Earth… Hundreds of millions of years in the future

Intergalactic explorers return to their home planet in search of signs of ancient civilizations (that’s us). What do they find? This science documentary uses our current knowledge of the physics, geology and environment of our planet to predict how it will evolve and what the future planet Earth may look like.

Weather permitting, Observing & Telescope Viewing will follow the Wairarapa meeting.
