Remembering, Reflecting, Reconnecting, join the Pātaka team this Matariki as they align with Pōhutukawa, the star that honours those who have passed. This year’s programme invites visitors to reflect on the past, connect with loved ones and embrace the promise of the year ahead.
Kōrero and Connection:
Discover stories and share korero with Te Rauparaha Horomona, alongside Robert McClean, principal advisor for Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, who is leading the collaboration for the restoration of Te Awarua o Porirua under the Porirua Harbour Accord – Te Wai Ora o Parirua.
Atuatanga the Vitural Reality Experience:
Join Wiremu Grace, creator and designer of Atuatanga, a virtual reality immersive experience that allows you to see, hear and feel the journey of the Atua. www.atuatanga.com
Matariki Face painting:

Matariki Remembrance Waka:
Write a message, memory or reflection that adds to Pātaka’s waka installation. Created as a place of remembrance and connection, the waka will grow throughout the Matariki season as visitors share thoughts of loved ones and moments that continue to guide them.
Music and Manaakitanga:
Gather with friends and whānau in the courtyard, and enjoy live music featuring local Ngāti Toa duo Mocean, Trey Ropata and emerging artist UTA.
Rongoā Seedlings from Porirua City Nursery:
Take home a native seedling grown by the Porirua City Council Nursery. These special plants reflect the themes of growth, renewal and caring for the natural world, carrying the spirit of Matariki beyond Pātaka and into your own garden.
