Join Explore Your Coast for one of their mindful coastal walks along Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington Harbour or Wellington’s South Coast hosted by marine scientist Dr Marjan van den Belt and Explore Your Coast. Part of the walks will be in silence, creating space to connect more deeply with the harbour and our relationship with it.
Do you care about the kelp forests of Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington Harbour? Does they inspire you, concern you, or simply spark your curiosity?
Perhaps you regularly walk the coastline, swim, snorkel, or dive, enjoy seaweed events, or you are keen to just come along and find out more. This is an opportunity to come together as a community of harbour stewards – something we all are, in one way or another, when we live in Whanganui-a-Tara.

They will also reflect on the state of the harbour and explore questions about its future. You might look at beach cast seaweeds, explore what’s under the surface or look through a VR headset. You will learn from each other, from the harbour, and from the questions that emerge along the way.
Along the way, you might meet like-minded people, future collaborators, or simply leave feeling inspired.
Registration is free. They’d simply like to know how many people are planning to attend. If the weather requires a change of plans, they’ll contact registered participants with an update.
Please note: this is a slow, contemplative walk. The route may include sections of beach and rocky shore, depending on conditions and the group.
