Presentation Topic – Doug Jolly was born in Cromwell, Central Otago, in 1904. He served in the Spanish Civil War and throughout WW2, gaining more experience at treating bullet wounds to the abdomen than any surgeon in history. His training manual, Field Surgery in Total War, remained a definitive text for 30 years. A recent biography, Frontline Surgeon, has been published simultaneously in the US and New Zealand.

Presenter – Mark Derby is a Wellington writer and historian who has spoken previously to the WMHS about Jolly. This talk will deal with international responses to Frontline Surgeon, and will provide additional information which has come to light since that book was published.

Catch-up 7-7.30pm Presentation 7.30-8.30pm
