Rangahau Rising webinar series
The words we use to talk about change shape what change becomes possible. In this webinar, Dr Franca Buelow shares research from her Bioprotection Aotearoa postdoctoral fellowship on how media, government, farm advisors, and researchers frame agricultural change, climate adaptation, and resilience in Aotearoa New Zealand. She used natural language processing to analyse several million words of text. The results show where these groups share concerns but use different language, and how media coverage of Cyclone Gabrielle focused on response rather than long-term recovery. The talk closes by considering what these findings mean for communicating bioprotection across communities.
