Abstract: How has the COVID-19 vaccine response benefited from struggles
with earlier epidemics? What are the challenges and gaps of the current
vaccine candidates? Which populations need more attention for effective
vaccine development? How will VAANZ and New Zealand contribute? The
seminar will address these questions from a global perspective, while
reviewing current COVID-19 vaccine platforms and pipeline.

Clinical Director, Vaccine Alliance Aotearoa New Zealand – Ohu Kaupare Huaketo (VAANZ)

Biography: Frances Priddy is an infectious disease physician with 20 years experience in clinical
vaccine development and is currently the Clinical Director for the Vaccine Alliance Aotearoa New
Zealand (VAANZ). Previously, Fran led vaccine development programs for HIV, TB and emerging
infectious diseases such as Ebola, Lassa fever and Marburg virus as the Chief Medical Officer for
International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. At IAVI she led a global team working with viral vectors,
protein subunit vaccines, monoclonal antibodies and gene transfer candidates in first-in-human
and multi-center trials in Africa, US and Europe. She served as Assistant Professor of Infectious
Disease at Emory University and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Fran received
her MD from University of California, San Francisco and Master of Public Health degree from the
University of California, Berkeley
