SUMMARY:Remote sensing of coastal water quality: from the Western English C
hannel to the Fitzeroy River\, Australia. A seminar by Gavin Tilstone *IN
 PERSON or ONLINE*
DESCRIPTION:Dr Gavin Tilstone\nPlymouth Marine Laboratory\, UK\n \nDr Tilst
one is a lead scientist in remote sensing of coastal water quality at PML
in the UK. He leads the team that has created a UK case AquaWatch for Pymo
uth using CSIRO’s Open Data Cube (ODC) and Australian Data Integration a
nd Analysis System (ADIAS) environments to assess the effect of agricultur
al and urban run-off from flooding on local marine ecosystems (seagrass be
ds and inter-tidal mud flats) in the Western English Channel Observatory\,
UK and Fitzeroy River\, Australia. Data from the western English Channel
Observatory and local rivers and estuaries\, are being integrated into the
ODC and ADIAS to develop new EO water quality products to monitor the hea
lth of rivers and to minimise their impacts on the Plymouth Sound coastal
zone. He is visiting NIWA to investigate potential collaboration on remote
sensing for coastal waters.\n\nHis presentation will cover:\n1.	AMT: The
use of autonomous instrumentation for the validation of Sentinel-1\, -2 an
d -3 and the development of CO2 flux and ocean acidification algorithms us
ing multi-sensor data (see recent ESA funded contract AMT4CO2Flux: Home ).
\n2.	Vis4Sea: the work on AquaWatch with CSIRO (see Monitoring water quali
ty in Plymouth Sound and beyond - Plymouth Marine Laboratory (pml.ac.uk)).
\n3.	S-3 EUROHAB: The development of an early warning system for HABs usin
g EO data and digital twins (see S-3 EUROHAB : Sentinel products for detec
ting EUtROphication and Harmful Algal Bloom events and PML awarded funding
to develop state-of-the-art digital twin for harmful algal bloom monitori
ng - Plymouth Marine Laboratory).\n\nMicrosoft Teams\nJoin the meeting now
