Join Rt Hon Helen Clark and economist Shamubeel Eaqub for a conversation on the findings of the Helen Clark Foundation’s second annual Social Cohesion in New Zealand report. The 2026 survey of nearly 3,000 New Zealanders shows cohesion slipping across every dimension measured — with financial stress emerging as the single biggest driver, and trust in institutions falling sharply. It also reveals some hopeful strengths in terms of New Zealanders’ sense of belonging and pride, as well as a high number of meaningful connections across different groups.

Moderated by Foundation director Murray Bruges, Helen and Shamubeel will unpack what the report’s findings mean for communities, policymakers, and the country’s long-term direction, and where the most promising opportunities for action lie.
