Jane Loo and Vivian Tan, Singapore Management University will present the following seminar:

Abstract:
As artificial intelligence (AI) gains prominence, managing its associated risks and challenges will become increasingly paramount. This presentation explores the value of AI transparency as the “magic pill” in inspiring more ethical, responsible and trustworthy AI systems. Using two case studies located in the public sector and popular chatbots, the presentation endeavours to provide a nuanced perspective on the role of transparency as it applies to diverse contexts. Additionally, the presentation considers the limitations of the transparency ideal, aiming to stimulate new perspectives and discussions on how transparency can be more effectively conceptualized and operationalized.

Speakers:

Her research interests focus on AI governance and ethics, the intersection of AI and the Courts, and platform economies.
