Inaugural Professorial Lecture – Professor Maria Stubbe

Maria is a social scientist and sociolinguist who currently leads the Applied Research on Communication in Health (ARCH) group. She has been fascinated by questions about language and communication for as long as she can remember.

How do we use talk to ‘do’ things like persuading others or making decisions together?

What can people’s stories tell us about their health experiences?

What happens when people from different cultures or who speak different languages interact?

Come to Maria’s IPL to find out what makes real-life conversations work well (or not so well) in health care settings and in workplaces like offices and factories as people go about their everyday activities.

If attending in person, registration is much appreciated (for catering purposes).
