How can we commemorate our loved ones while caring for the environment?

Across Aotearoa, Matariki mā Puanga is a time to celebrate the new year and honour those who have passed. Every community has its own way of remembering loved ones, and gravesite tributes, including plastic flowers and keepsakes, are common. Yet, when exposed to the elements, these tributes can harm the wider environment where we lay our loved ones to rest.

Courageous conservation requires courageous conversations.

At Zealandia’s next Conservation Kōrero, the speaker Dr Nate Rigler invites us to reflect on the environmental impact of plastic tributes and explore respectful, sustainable ways to commemorate those we’ve lost.

Light refreshments provided. Doors open at 5:30pm, parking is available at both our Visitor Centre and overflow parking area on Birdwood Street.
