Abstract
If you can design a wonderful deterministic radar signal, why distort it with randomness? The solution ends up being a problem concerning Brownian motion. Dropping your phone in the sea is not advised, so why build phones with liquids inside them? The solution gives rise to a problem concerning Expected Euler Characteristics – something the speaker had never heard of. In this talk, he will give an overview of two research projects in the general area of mobile phone communications that are throwing up lots of hard statistical problems.
