More information

This Matariki season, join Wellington City Libraries for a free event that will explore how data from the natural world can be turned into music. French sound artist Aurélien Buiron will take you on a learning journey, exploring how every location on the planet carries its own seismic signature which can be expressed in music. Taonga Pūoro master Tāmihana Katene and Aurélien will join to perform a sonic interpretation of the Matariki Māori new year, celebrating mātauranga Māori and te taiao.

About the performers:
Tāmihana Katene is a renown accomplished māori musician and artist. For 20 years, Tāmihana has been involved in the reinvigoration of Taonga Puoro within the Wellington region.

Aurélien Buiron aka “Ghost In The Loop” is a professional well-respected French artist and an international expert in “sonification”; he performed for many key French events including the UN Ocean conference in Nice, the Kilian Jornet Foundation and Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris.

This event is collaboratively organised with Dr. Caroline Holden, a French-Kiwi seismologist and director of SeismoCity.
