 e you their seminar.\n\nFriday Seminar Series: Associate Professor Tina Su
 mmerfield (University of Otago)\n\nCyanobacteria are emerging as promising
  chassis organisms for the sustainable production of high-value compounds 
 due to their ability to convert solar energy and CO₂ into biomass and bi
 ochemicals. Maximising photosynthetic efficiency—particularly through op
 timisation of photosystem II performance—is critical to enhancing produc
 tivity. Comparative genomic analyses and transcriptomics have shown cyanob
 acteria possess gene families that enable modification of photosystem II i
 n response to environmental conditions. In parallel\, maintaining strain s
 tability over time requires a robust understanding of the genetic mechanis
 ms that underpin genome integrity. This includes characterising and manipu
 lating DNA repair pathways. Tina will discuss her research focused on phot
 osynthesis and genome stability aimed at improving and maintaining the per
 formance of cyanobacterial chassis for long-term biotechnological use. \n\
