Location
Butterfly Creek walking track, East Harbour Regional Park, corner Karaka and Kowhai Streets, Eastbourne, Lower Hutt, Wellington

This walk is to continue learning about NZ native forest trees, plants and ferns. This time meeting at 10.30am at the intersection of Kowhai and Karaka Streets in Eastbourne.

The well-maintained Kowhai Street Track climbs to reveal wonderful views over Te Whanganui-a-Tara before descending to Butterfly Creek where there are picnic tables and a toilet. It’s roughly an hour each way as a walk, with botanising time additional to that. They’ll go as far as the group wishes.

An 83 bus leaves Courtenay Place at 8.50am and goes via Petone and Lower Hutt to Stop 9855 Muritai Road at Kowhai Street arriving 10.00am.

A map view of 200 species is here and the same in photo view here.

It’s a one-way trip, turn around when you wish. Bring water and snacks; and lunch if you plan to continue, as John will, into the early afternoon.

Please RSVP for any car-pooling opportunities or just turn up. As always, feel free to forward this message and invite anyone you think may be interested.
