Meet the kaumoana of the waka hourua Ngahiraka-mai-tawhiti to learn about the history and knowledge of Manu Rere Moana | Pacific Voyagers.

E Ngāi Pīkoko, e te wairua hīkaka, tomo mai rā ki tō tātau whare kia rongo ai koe i te reka o ngā mahi Waka Hourua!

To those wanting to learn and eager to be involved, Te Papa invite you to experience Waka Hourua and traditional navigation.

Nau mai, haere mai, welcome. Join kaupapa waka experts for a series of whānau friendly workshops and interactive activities.

Learn about the kāpehu whetū (the star compass), ngā papa rā, and explore the crew’s brand-new Whare Whetū, and go on a walking tour to visit the waka Ngahiraka-mai-tawhiti.

Workshops open from 10.00am–1.00pm and 1.30pm–3.00pm each day.

Walking tours to the waka will go ahead regardless of the weather, so please dress appropriately.
